Something Different – Thanksgiving Google hottest searches

In looking at the Hot searches on Google today, Thanksgiving Eve, 2011 we find #1 – Thanksgiving. Thank God! Glad it is not yet Christmas (or something scary).

Number 2 however is someone I have never heard of (mind you I do not have TV. Just Netflix. And a VCR/DVD Deck.) Yes a VCR. To many of you it’s right up there with the phone my 9-year-old saw in a thrift shop this past weekend. It was pretty old-fashioned even to my standards – ornate, fancy handle, on a pedestal. She picked up the receiver, that was familiar enough and said “mom, how do you dial it?” It was a rotary dial of course…. But she does math online, can adeptly search for horse videos and 12-year-olds seeing how fast they can sing the “50 Nifty United States” on YouTube. And do more on my cell phone than I can… she simply can’t understand a rotary telephone.

Christopher Cross at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino

If you have not had the opportunity to go to a concert “on the lawn” at the Suquamish Clear Water Casino, I recommend you go and check it out.

We won tickets to see Christopher Cross play.  It was a beautiful evening, excellent atmosphere, good food and drinks,  and a chance to hear Cross play “Sailing” while a sail boat passed behind the stage.

Cross and his band sounded great, mixing his hits from the early eighties with songs that are not so well known.  His voice sounded just like it did on the album we used to listen to when I was a kid.

It was a great way to spend a late summer evening.  The moon slowly rose over Bainbridge Island in the picturesque background and the evening air was filled with music.

Puget Sound Salmon Fishing

We recently went Salmon fishing in the Puget Sound between Suquamish, Bainbridge Island and Indianola.  We tried using buzz bombs, fake squid and shiners, shiners and herring and lures.  No Salmon on this outing.  We did see one fisherman haul in a good size silver.

We did catch a few bullheads and one dog fish, but more importantly we had a good time out on the Sound enjoying the salty sea and relaxing views.  If any of you have some fishing tips, they are welcome.

Salmon Fishing under the Agate Passage Bridge

A  good area to go salmon fishing is under the Agate Passage bridge.  The bridge connects Bainbridge Island with Kitsap county and there is beach access from the Bainbridge Island side.  If you are crossing the bridge toward Bainbridge, take the first left after the bridge  and follow the road until you get to a large power line tower park then walk down the short trail.

From the Suquamish side I usually access the beach from Chief Seattle Park and walk to the bridge.  There may be access from the park and ride area on the Kitsap side of the bridge.

Even if you don’t catch a salmon, it is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the beaches, views and salty air of  Puget Sound.

If you have not taken the time to stop by Bella Luna Pizzeria in Suquamish and try their french dip with bread that they bake themselves, you are missing out on a mouth watering experience.  They serve the best pizza in the area and excellent pasta dishes, salads and more.

After satisfying your taste buds, a stroll down the new Suquamish dock makes for a perfect way to spend some time enjoying the views of the Puget Sound.
